Dining at Bashfords

Charlie and Jane Ritchie moved from London in 1992 and spent a year renovating the property to an exceptional standard. Using local craftsmen they have created a house full of beauty and character.

There are big open fireplaces and guests dine around a large pine table and are made to feel totally welcome during their stay. Charlie and Jane pride themselves on their cooking and dinner is available by prior arrangement.

Set in the beautiful Quantock Hills and easily accessible from all parts of the country, Bashfords offers the ideal centre for a stay in the area.

The Quantocks

Walking on the Quantocks

You can walk from the front door and be on the hills (one of the first officially designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK) where you are likely to see red deer, buzzards and a wide variety of other wildlife.

Charlie and Jane can advise on the best walks in the area as well as providing maps and packed lunches.

Dunster Castle

For Garden and National Trust enthusiasts

Visit Dunster Castle or Hestercombe Gardens or many of the other landmarks in the area.

We are particularly well placed for Hestercombe should you be going there for a wedding or other social function.

West Somerset Railway

The West Somerset Railway.

Three miles from the farmhouse, The West Somerset Railway recaptures the era of the branch line country railway in the days of steam.

Enjoy 20 miles of glorious Somerset scenery as the train gently rolls back the years on its journey beside the Quantock Hills to the Bristol Channel coast.

Just sit back in your seat and watch the countryside drift past the window.
